During the holidays, most people tend to put their home-buying or selling on hold. They want to spend time with their family and loved ones or just want to take a time-out and relax, energize or socialize, etc. Because of that, inventory of homes tends to fall, and buyers who continue to look are very serious buyers indeed.
So if you are a serious buyer, do not give up. But keep in kind that many sellers may not be so inclined to show their home, and their schedules may be hectic and their homes may show differently during the holidays. So when a seller opens their home to you, be courteous and remove your shoes upon entering especially if asked to. Keep your appointment time, and if you are unable to make it, make sure you let the seller know. Do not bother the seller with questions if they are there, and do not linger overlong, especially if the seller is there and looking anxious.
If you are a serious seller and want to keep your home on the market during the holidays, don’t feel like you have to bend over backward for the buyer. Make it convenient for yourself and your schedule. But do make your home a welcoming place for the buyer when they do show up. A serious buyer can look beyond any additional clutter, and they may be captivated by holidays sights, smells and sounds of your home.
Here in south Orange County, the activity picks up quite a but in January. More homes get listed for sale, and more buyers enter the market. So now may be a good time to sell since there is less competition AND buy for the same reason (let’s hope more sellers list their homes for sale…we could use the inventory).
Wishing Everyone a Lovely and Merry Christmas and a Peaceful and Prosperous New Year.
